Died in a 4D-Movie Theatre
Died in a 4D-Movie Theatre shows a scene seemingly just in motion, now abandoned frozen in stillness. The hay bales bear witness to agriculture, to dryness and heat. The fiery red of the paintings also creates a tension that makes the abandoned place appear as a kind of apocalyptic state. By integrating exposure signs in his paintings, the artist also refers to a digital information culture in which events, especially in the form of images, habe only an in- direct effect and an emotional distance prevails. The 4D cinema mentioned in the title repre- sents a mediating position in this context, when through sensory stimuli, a direct experience oaf media images is simulated. Nevertheless, it remains only a simulation in a framework in which there is no real threat. The exhibition space has a similar effect here: we smell the hay and feel the dryness, but we are not at the mercy of the heat in the field.
